Fibes SFT 690 Snare Drum

Description:
- 5 1/2 x 14
- Black Fivel Finish
- Fiberglass
- Late 60's

Comments:

In 1966, the Fibes Drum Corporation was founded. Their specialty was fiberglass drums and they offered them in various finishes and wraps. For a short time, the drums were very popular and many famous drummers used the drums, especially this model snare drum.

Buddy Rich was photographed using the SFT 690 while endorsing Slingerland. As you can imagine, this caused quite a stir.

This particular drum is finished in Black fivel, clearly one of the strangest finishes ever. It resembled a sprayed on black velvet paint. There were numerous colors offered, including blue, red, orange and combinations This drum also has the Fibes Sta-Way bumper attached to it. This device prevented the snare drum from rubbing against the hanging tom.
